Cowhide & leather care instructions

So, you’ve joined the cowhide club, well played girl! To keep your new pretty in its best possible condition, we recommend following a few super easy rules to maintain the longevity of your new item.

  • Firstly, let’s understand the product itself. Cowhide is known for its long lasting durability and

beautiful appearance. Of course with time, like anything, it can start to wear and the hide can

become thinner and shorter. For cowhide, this is a natural progression and should not be considered

as a fault to the product. However, there are certainly a few sneaky hints to make these beautiful

    items last even longer!

  • Reduce friction. Wearing your bag day in and day out with rubbing alongside your body can cause friction, and although cowhide is durable this will eventually create wear marks. We recommend switching up the side you wear your bag on, so it wears evenly and doesn’t create friction to the favoured side.

  • When not in use, we recommend keeping your bag in a cool place free of any moisture. (If this happens to be in your robe, be mindful of shower steam from your bathroom if in close vicinity).

Avoid hanging your bag when being stored (we know, don’t hang the handbag – sorry what?) but this can start to perish the leather if left for long periods of time. Stuff it with newspaper to keep the shape looking full.

  • If your bag requires spot cleaning, use a damp cloth to wipe over the bag in the natural growth direction of the hide.

Avoid using chemicals or too much water, or a cloth that is too wet.

  • Leather is such a durable material, however it too, needs love.

We recommend using a leather cleaner product to keep your leather moisturised and looking fresh. It is normal for leather to have cracks appear with age, we think these just add character!
